Jazz, Classical and World Music in Kapelle with the StarkLinnemann Quartet

Kapelle - On Friday 5th of April from 20:00 the StarkLinnemann Quartet (NL) will perform a special concert in Kapelle.
The concert features an adaptation of Pictures at an Exhibition by the Russian 19th-century composer Modest Mussorgsky. The piece is arranged for a quartet setting in a Universal Crossover Music style, the audience will be amazed how many styles of music can blend into one coherent piece of music.

Special timbres
The StarkLinnemann Quartet is always looking for unusual combinations of musical styles, away from the obvious. For Pictures at an Exhibition, this principle has been implemented very deeply. Extreme contrasts between classical, jazz, world and rock music create a special musical experience. But also in terms of timbre, the band digs deeper than ever before. Saxophonist Iman Spaargaren plays clarinet and bass clarinet in addition to tenor saxophone. Vasilis Stefanopoulos contributes greatly by adding sound effects as well as loops to his double bass playing. Moreover, drummer and co-leader Jonas Linnemann adds congas to his regular drum set. Music for almost everyone

Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition has always appealed to people’s imagination because of its visual power and originality. It is considered to be the most edited piece of music in history. The piece is well known in the classical music scene, there have been many versions for symphony orchestra’s as well as marching bands and small combo’s even the famous rock band from the seventies Emerson, Lake & Palmer made an adaptation.

Paul Stark: "It would be nice if fans of classical music or jazz would get to know fans of world music this evening. I have edited the piece in such a way that many music styles merge into one piece of music. At one moment you’re listening to tranquil classical music and then suddenly a fragment passes in which you -with some imagination- fancy yourself sitting in a cozy jazz club. That’s just beautiful right!"
