Masters made of Mozart and Murray
Nizar Rohana is one of the greatest oud players in the world. Born and raised in a musical family in the Palestine he picked up the instrument at the age of thirteen. His sources of inspiration include the classical Arab composer Tanburi Cemil Bey as well as Bach and Mozart. But he also feels equally at home in jazz and avant-garde music. Nazir settled in the Netherlands six years ago, and ever since he has been involved in projects that no longer recognize any musical boundaries between East and West and North and South. In In 2013 he founded his own trio together with the Hungarian contrabassist Matyas Szandai and the Lebanese percussionist Wassim Halal. A virtuoso, Halal is an omnivorous percussionist and Szandai pretty much the most sought after bassist in Europe having played with Archie Shepp, David Murray and Chic. ...
