Portuguese singer and guitarist Lula Pena has achieved a cult status with her haunting ‘phado’, a unique style bordering on chansons, blues, flamenco and fado.

This month Lula Pena’s new album Archivo Pittoresco will be released on Crammed Discs and this is a special event: since 1998 only two albums have been released by this introverted singer and guitarist from Portugal. Despite this sparse discography she has gathered a stream of devoted followers, a kind of secret society whose ranks continue to grow. With her haunting voice, her unique acoustic guitar playing and her narrative songs she has developed a style that is completely her own.
